Blythewood is located in the northeast corner of Richland County in South Carolina’s Midlands region with Columbia, SC about fifteen miles to the South. Originally known as Doko, which is a Native American word for watering place, in the 1850s, the Charlotte & South Carolina Railroad stopped to pick up water to fuel the steam engines, as well as passengers. The town was renamed Blythewood in 1887, to better describe the community’s pleasant groves of pines and oaks.
